The audition process is generally a progressive one. All applicants will be evaluated and placed in either the Vanguard or Vanguard Cadets depending on the level of accomplishment, ability level and commitment. In order to allow time for improvement, we prefer to see applicants as many times as possible before making a corps placement decision.

To give you an idea of what an audition applicant will be doing during the audition process, please see some examples of the criteria outlined below pertaining to your caption. For those with less experience, don't get discouraged if you can't handle everything at first. It is much more important that you have a great attitude, drive and willingness to learn. We look for these qualities in all applicants. Keep in mind the following criteria are merely guidelines to what may be expected for acceptance. Both the Vanguard and Vanguard Cadets will provide extensive group training so that the criteria will be achievable for those applicants who are accepted into the organization.

Note: If you are a beginner, intermediate or are looking at starting to play an instrument, dance or color guard, the Vanguard Cadets are designed to teach you these skills during the winter months, January – April. If you are at this level, you are not expected to participate in an audition process and are not expected to do any of the following until you have learned these skills during the winter months.

More details regarding how to become involved in the Vanguard Cadets can be found here.

If you are planning on attending an audition, you need to RSVP.

All percussionists may send a video audition prior to the audition camp if they feel they may not be ready to audition for SCV yet. There is no guarantee that all video auditions will be viewed prior to the camp, nor that we will be able to respond in time for you to attend the audition camp if they are received late. If you are committed to coming to the audition camps, a video audition is not necessary.
